Washington DC - Part Seven

My kids were excited to go see Abraham Lincoln, and no trip to Washington DC would be complete without visiting the Lincoln Memorial.

If you go inside (under the Memorial) there is a tiny museum display where you can see a life mask of Mr. Lincoln.

Walking around outside offers wonderful views of the Mall! Around back, across the Potomac river, you will see a portion of Arlington and you can spot the residence of Robert E. Lee before the Civil War! You’ll see that view in a future post when I visited this location again just after sunset.

Near the Lincoln Memorial is the Vietnam War Memorial. It was important for us to visit and look for the name of a relative on my Husband’s side of the family.

It took him a long time searching through so many names but he found him.

We continued our walking tour and this was the portion of the day where I discovered you can no longer see the White House without interference so you get beautiful photographs of fences and barriers. LOL!

I wanted to go to the National Archives to show the kids the Declaration of Independence. I had hopes of photographing the Declaration and other documents better than I did on my previous visit. I did not know what I was doing with a camera back then. I learned they no longer allow photography anywhere inside the building. I’ve read that it’s an effort to protect the documents from further damage by excess light. So I shall share with you my photograph of the Declaration of Independence from that previous visit.

As you can see, even back then there was a lot of damage and fading. You can barely read it now.

We also visited the National Museum of the American Indian. There are many amazing and wonderful museums in DC! I can’t wait to go back and visit more of them!

We continued our journey walking around the Mall and headed back to the US Capitol Building on our way to the Library of Congress. Which I will share in the next post!
