Washington DC - Part Eight

As I mentioned in a previous post, construction was being done to the front of the US Capitol Building during our visit. I was able to capture some great close ups and find more angles to photograph. I took this series on our way to visit the Library of Congress.

Next up we visit the world’s largest Library!!! We had several readers in our group super excited to visit, especially my two oldest children. I’m so glad we took the time to go!

The Library of Congress was AMAZING! I’m pretty sure I walked through several areas with my mouth hanging open! What an incredible and beautiful building! So much art and beauty everywhere you look! It was so large it was all rather overwhelming at first trying to decide where to go!

I inquired about photography indoors and they were very friendly and said it was no problem. So I have plenty of images to share with you!

Everywhere we went in the Library we were looking up! Check out these amazing ceilings!!! There were so many mosaics, paintings and sculptures. There were names and quotes and words of wisdom waiting to be discovered. This Library is packed with treasures of wisdom!

I walked around a corner and this is where my jaw literally dropped!

Then there was the Reading Room Rotunda. There’s a really nice overlook of the room where you can quietly observe.

We discovered Thomas Jefferson’s Library!

Moving on, there was so much more to explore and time was running short!

This is a 1783 map of the United States!

This is the Gutenberg Bible.

I hope I haven’t overwhelmed you with so many images! It was such an amazing place! I probably only saw the tip of the iceberg. If you go to Washington DC you really should visit the Library!

Coming up we return to the Lincoln Memorial after sunset! I hope you’ll join me!
