Lassen Volcanic National Park - Part Four

The sun sets and night falls fast. Most people head for home or camp at this point. But, not us!

Did you know Lassen is a designated Dark Sky Park? This means there is very little light pollution and it’s the perfect place to star gaze, or in my case, practice astrophotography!

There was just a small sliver of moon that night and it set quickly making it even darker!

We visited a few locations hoping for star reflections in the Lakes but didn’t have much luck.

We moved over to the “Bumpass Hell” parking lot and back to that super cool boulder. I wanted to try a different composition and light painting the rock, but unfortunately that spot was already taken (for hours) and I don’t think he would’ve appreciated my light painting in the middle of his shot. So I moved on to find more options.

Facing the other direction I discovered the Milky Way.

We couldn’t believe how many stars you could see as it grew steadily darker!!!

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands!” Psalms 19:1

Seeing so many stars makes you realize just how tiny you are! It was an incredible and wonderful experience seeing His glory!

Emerald Lake yielded a slight reflection.

I have a lot to learn for astrophotography! It was sure fun practicing!

We got back to camp in the wee hours of the morning and rested for a few hours before heading out for a second day of adventure!

Our next destination? “Cinder Cone”!
