I love the ocean! The ocean has so many different moods and colors. It’s always different, even while it’s the same. Today I’d like to share with you the mood that is pure power!

About a week ago I took my family out to experience the king tide. The king tide is when you get an exceptionally high tide that can occur during either a new moon or a full moon.

The waves were particularly high and dangerous! They were predicted to be around 20ft. We decided to go check out the wave action at the North Jetty. I have never seen them so high and powerful! We could actually see the waves as we drove up behind the dunes! Normally you can walk across the beach and on the jetty on a calm day and in good conditions. This day we never left the dunes (about 30ft high). The jetty was covered in water when we arrived!

Please please PLEASE be careful if you ever visit the Jetties! They are extremely dangerous even on a good day! A few people are lost every year when they unknowingly get swept off.

One particular wave was so incredibly powerful as it thundered by, the ground even quaked!!! I’ve never experienced such power from a wave before! It was awe inspiring! I’m so glad we went out to see it! Even these pictures can’t quite give you the sense of just how incredible it was! Enjoy!

Have you ever been to the Jetties before or experienced a king tide? I’d love to hear about your experience! Leave me a comment.
