Alaskan Moose

It came to my attention earlier this week that I have never done a post about moose before! So here we are for Throw-Back-Thursday.

Several years ago my family was stationed in Alaska. We visited Denali National Park during one of our moves.

This particular day was an amazing day! I’d been wanting a good moose picture but until that day hadn’t had much luck and kept missing them.

We decided to take a hike in another area. We were up above a lake when we saw a moose way down below. We hiked down and got MUCH closer!

We were hiking along when we heard a big ruckus right on the other side of some trees. Scary!

We came to a boardwalk and a fellow photographer explained to me that there was an adult moose that had just charged the other! That was what we had just heard.

This momma and baby were standing in the bay and we got to enjoy watching them for quite a while!

(We were at a safe distance using my long lens).

Finally we decided to move on and when we came to the next bay we found a second baby and momma moose pair! The calf was hiding in the grass.

We think this was the moose that had charged the other. Perhaps she had gotten confused looking for her baby.

Thankfully she was completely unconcerned by the crowd watching her and was enjoying her meal.

God blessed us with safety and an incredible experience watching these two pairs! I’ll never forget that day!

Yes, we even got to see the mountain briefly on this trip when it wasn’t clouded over!
